Petition for the overall road safety
Our children's death was not a question of fate or destiny, but it was the result of inadequate and inefficient road safety enforcement.

Nothing will bring them back, but we can prevent this from happening again. Our other sons and daughters and many other children whose parents we do not know will travel along our routes; some of this routes are tragically called the "route of the death". No measures have been taken so far, we are just waiting for another accident to occur. We do not want to see our children getting into a bus and think that this might be the last time we see them.

We urge to the "people's representatives" of both chambers to seriously and proactively deal with the safety of our roads. We are not specialists in this issue (they will have to decide which are the best actions); we are victims of the actions that have not been taken.

We claim the enforcement of a comprehensive road safety law , including the control of bus and truck drivers and their resting hours, no circulation of trucks at night, the prohibition to sell alcoholic beverages to drivers, real and effective blood alcohol tests, that the police posted in the Toll booths no only controls and guards the cashiers, but also that they control and detain drivers and vehicles in bad conditions.

We urge the Executive to enforce, by means of the Comisión Nacional de Regulación del Trasporte (National Transportation Regulatory Commission), the laws in force or those to be enacted so that said laws are applied not only upon the demand of the community. And regarding the Minister in office, we urge him/her to call for tenders so that the routes - run by a concession or not - which should have two lanes per direction and adequate shoulders fulfil with the minimun requirements considering the increase of vehicles and of international traffic.

We urge the Judicial Power to systematically punish those that do not comply with the laws in force or to be enacted. We do not want to see in hidden cameras drivers evading the few controls by paying a coin, or that the owners of the companies demand drivers an inhuman schedule.

We hope that, parents should not wait a call from our children saying that they have "arrived safely" any longer; this should be common place. We urge the Power of the Republic to work seriously and with responsibility to avoid every situation that is not a result of fate or destiny but a result of recklessness and irresposibility.
