| PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR BUS TRAVELLERS |
STUDY, GRADUATION OR TOURIST TRIPS
If you or somebody close to you is about to travel by bus, there are some regulations issued by the National Transportation Regulatory Commission (Comisión Nacional de Regulación del Transporte - CNRT) which should be taken into account:
This means of transport should:
- Have 1 fire extinguisher per bus deck
- Have seat belts for all the passengers
- Have a first-aid kit
- Inform the following 48 hours before departure:
- Bus plate number.
- Insurance policies. Keep in mind that if there is an accident, the insurance companies are the ones that should answer to their requirements.
- Driver's ID No. and, they report themselves before the bus departures.
- Documents certifying the drivers' leisure and working hours.
We consider wise to:
- Demand that the trip is made during daytime since the visibility and responding possibilities are better. Statistics show that there are more accidents at night.
- In case of long-distance trips, we suggest planning a schedule in order to spend the night in a city or town with accommodation booked in advance.
- When coming back, the document where the leisure hours are recorded should be requested once again.
- Avoid double-deck buses since they are highly unstable and manoeuvrability is too difficult.
- Adults should encourage the use of safety belts.
- The bus should have a speed limitator which should be on, so when the vehicle exceeds 90 km a warming goes off and a red light starts twinkling. It is usually off.
- When the bus speeds up, it swings and moves from one side to the other. If this occurs, the accompanying people and the kids should strongly advise the driver to slow down, in case he does not do so, they should call the police or the border guard. They should also call 911 and report the route, the bench mark and identify the bus they are traveling in.
- The seats should be provided with anchors: bolts instead of screws so that they are fixed.
These rules are pursuant to Act 24449 and Decree No. 692/1992
If you need to report a case, ask for advice or request an inspection to control a bus, call the National Transportation Regulatory Commission (Comisión Nacional de Regulación del Transporte - CNRT) at: 0800-3330300

| Predictable Catastrophe |
Most tragedies are caused by alcohol (six out of 10 accidents); and the second reason is: overspeed.
"Red Solidaria" invites individuals, public and private institutions and organizations to join us to try to reduce the number of deaths during the next holidays.
Suggestions (very simple and specific):
1) If I drink alcohol:
- I select a designated driver,
- I take a service car,
- I stay where I am till the next morning or midday.
2) I reduce the speed (most of accidents are fatal when drivers speed up)
3) And also:
a) Children should be at the back seat.
b) Buckle up the safety belt.
c) Wear helmets.
Some figures...
# Men are involved in nine out of ten accidents.
# The highest number of accidents take place in routes, avenues and highways.
# Mortality rate is three times higher at night than during daytime.
# Almost half of these victims are young people between fifteen and thirty years old.
# The provinces with the higher rate of car accidents are in the following order: Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba and Mendoza.
In our country, every hour dies a person in this kind of accident.
